Blog Post #6

For the Randy Pausch video, I got a very good vibe from his attitude through out the whole video. He says several things, one being when he says "Brick walls let us show our dedication". From this statement, I get that in life, there are certain steps that you either go through or do not go through. The "brick wall" lets us know later in life who has done what and who has not done much. Job opportunities open up for the ones who do push the wall until they are finished. College is a good source for looking at "The wall" that people have to get through.
His next quote can relate to the first quote mentioned, as in you can apply it to the first quote. The quote is "Don't Bail: the best gold is at the bottom of barrels". I admire how he has a youtube video with him mentioning to everybody watching to do not stop pushing your self away from your dreams. Anything in life has to have steps to it, and what he is saying is to never bail from any step that can lead you to happiness. These steps are good for me to check myself and see if I really am applying myself all the way in college.
Another important thing he mentions is to "use gratitude" with people. He means by this, to show people your talents with anything if you know you deserve credit. I know that most people do not do this because there are billions of people in the world and I know there is more talent than what I see daily. If everyone applied this step, I feel like more businesses and opportunities would open up in general for everyone.
Another thing I like from his quotes is "Don't complain just work harder". From a thing I learned from this class a few weeks ago, lets me know that this step should be more active in the United States. I am talking about the project assignment I read about how India and China people are so much smarter than we are. That should spike a fire into people, and tell each person to do more with themselves. It seems like people talk more than they do their actions. It needs to be the other way around, which is less talking and more doing. If people use the step "Don't complain just work harder", they will realize that they have a better chance of making more money.

For Sophia's Blog post, she talks about hoe sportsmanship is indeed important. I commented on her post, which is this link, http://kidblog.org/MsEppelesClass/sophia496/whats-more-importent-teamwork-or-sportsmaship-both/#comment-806. The first thing Sophia points out is that in sports, sportsmanship is important. I told her that a sportsmanship like mind set is important in sports, but also important in life in general. For more specifics on this, check out the url posted about. Sophia mentions that if there were no teams, then everyone would work as individuals and look like sore losers running around.
She makes another point about how teamwork is important. She says that without teamwork in a sport, only a few players on the team would touch the ball, and those few would be the few to score. I agree with her, and will add that those team players that would not touch the ball and/or score would probably be emotionally pushed away from that specific sport. Well, what if that person not getting any attention was indeed good at that sport? This is like wasting talent. Yes, I do feel like this does happen every year in every state of the United States.

In the "Don't teach your students this stuff. Please?", I see that Scott McLeod has many problems with students using the internet as a source of learning. It seems like his primary argument is about how there is so much "trash" anyone can access over the internet. I understand that there are "sick" people in the world, but I did have a thing to say to his look at children's internet use for learning. I said that students should be able to use the internet if they have a teacher watching whatever school work it is they are doing. The teachers or their parents could work of course. The link to where I commented is http://www.dangerouslyirrelevant.org/2009/08/dont-teach-your-kids-this-stuff-please.html.

There are many things that are in "The iSchool Initiative" that seem to be better than the old fashion teaching. Travis Allen is who created this ipod type of device, and for me going to school to become a teacher, it does indeed frighten me. By the time I graduate school, I feel like every student will be taught by an ipod basically. Does this mean I will not be able to find a job? Or does this way of teaching really mean that there will be the same amount of teaching spots available.
Travis explains how teachers are still involved, but I know that those guys making this program are thinking even farther down the line. What is farther down the line from this? I think the next step would be that the next generation of students being so good at using technology that they could use the ipod as school with no need of a teacher! This does not make me smile, because all this really means is that I would have spent thousands of dollars on college and having no job with no income at all. Honestly, students should learn the old fashion way of learning which is with a piece of paper and pen. I feel like this will make each teacher more lazy too!

For the video on Eric Whitacre"S Virtual Choir, I will admit that it is pretty neat how he has 185 different people that do not know each other singing the same piece. I am into music myself, so I wonder about some specifics about how they know the music. Do all of these kids have the piece memorized? If so, how did they know to memorize this piece? I mean, I understand if Eric sent those 185 people the sheet music and he told each one to memorize it by a certain date. That or maybe they have their sheet music in front of them making it look like they are staring at the computer screen. I could argue with that because I watched closely and for some of those people it seemed like they had it memorized, which is better than "sight reading" music! It is neat how ever he did set this program. I have never seen a good sounding choir that does their music work over the internet.

For the video on "Teaching in the 21st Century", it seems to have tons and tons of questions that are asking questions for individuals for in hard situations. A better way to word it is, the questions that are in this movie are the questions the internet cannot answer "straight up". I mean, sure the internet is very cool, but no site that I have heard of can answer in general life questions with a strict valid answer. If the internet did do that, then I would ask every question I could until I got to a point I was satisfied with, in my life. This basically means, if the internet could give us advice for specific questions, I would not have to attend college at all. Why do I think it is right to mention this? Well, again, if the internet could lead me in the right direction with any question I need to learn, I really would not have to attend college because I could eventually find other ways to make serious money, I'm sure.

For the Reading Rockets site, it first shows a dozen apps for a computer device that can help with sequencing, inference, word awareness, and mind mapping. I am supposed to reply to how I feel about the advice this site gives. For this first way, I do think it is a good idea to have apps in the palm of your hand that gives ways of studying for different materials. For the next thing on the site on Reading for Meaning, it states under it that it explains ways to teach students why reading is important. I will check into this part of the site myself, because this topic if for sure something I need to work on as an individual. The site ends about the topic on the Dr. Seuss way of learning. Dr. Seuss helps with reading, rhyming, and playing with words to make actual fun out of it. This can for sure help a student with reading because Dr. Seuss is like a comedian who is good at teaching younger students to learn how to make fun out of reading.

The student I commented on was a person by the name of Birklan. Birklan caught my attention quick when I started reading the post. Birklan uses 14 different unique colors in the post and talks about loving art. Birklan seems to have a very good attitude towards it as well, and I told Birklan to keep that attitude up. Birklan likes five main topics about art that contributes to every way of doing art. Those ways are- painting, drawing, coloring, sketching, and shading. If Birklan does art work as much as it seems it does, by the time Birklan is my age Birklan could be very effective in the art category. Two things that I would work on for Birklan would be to watch out for run on sentences, and making sure there is a space after the sentence between the beginning of the next sentence. The link for Birklan's post is http://kidblog.org/4thGradeSL/20gbirklan/my-favorite-hobby/#comment-169

Blog Post #4

For the Langwitches ideas, I see that the teacher for this site has specifics about how she does things. She has an idea of bringing in three students at a time to see how each do their work. She has an audio system that she sets up in her entire class which reads the material instead of herself doing it. Each student is supposed to read along in their books, using their fingers to follow along while listening to the audio system. A small change that is really effective in this is that for each chapter, the tone of the audio voice changes. This, of course, helps those young students to keep up at the beginning of each chapter. This teacher does plan to give her students a level which can be considered "play time", once they have reached a level of success with their assignments.
Being that the teacher does set up the time to be able to listen to three students at a time helps the students realize that they are more important to themselves. For each student, it will make them more aware since they know the teacher has time to see and understand their individual problems. When this teacher gets the class in entirely, she can let the students follow along and she can notice which students are and are not keeping up. This can allow her to remember the students who have more trouble reading, so this way she can write down and remember each student who falls under the more trouble with reading category. If she uses this way weekly, she can be very productive if she does this at least once a week in the school year. For any first grader, the words play time can inspire them to go to school. This teacher mentions how the students will receive play time once they progress to a certain level of improvement.
For the facts on "The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom", this is another source that gives points that explains legit reasons podcasting can help with, unlike older ways of learning. The first thing mentioned in this source is how each student has a better advantage with interacting with other students outside of the classroom. The reason that this is able to be the case is because with podcasting in a classroom, each student has to apply themselves, which means that they would have to meet other students and work with each other as a group a lot more. Another point this source provides is how their can be bigger differences than usual with projects, since each student would have off time to see other students ideas on their projects. Once each student realizes each standard way of moving around for podcasting, more creativity and innovation is expected to happen more and more. At a certain level in the school year, the students could make characters and scenes out of podcasting, which can make memories and more fun out of the school work. The last point that was mentioned in this source was about how each students parents can see what and when their child's work was done, and how they are doing in the class.
I agree with how podcasting in a classroom can be looked at as a way of helping idividual's interact with others outside of school. I honestly wish they would have put podcasting in schools twenty years ago. If I would have had this source at young age, I will argue that I would not have had to attend any type of college because I would have made a lot of money by the time my senior year of high school was over. I also bet there would have been a bigger chance of getting a job that pays enough money to live off of, as a dependent person. I agree with the fact that more project possibilities are available with the use of podcasting, which is because, again, being able to see and talk to other students about their ideas. I like the idea of how students should record their own scenes. This could help make more friends for each student and become a better rounded person to their age group. The last point is very effective, which lets every parent have the chance to see everything their child has done for the class.
The last source I used is called "Judy Scharf Podcast Collection". The first thing she does and defines the word Broadcast. She says that it is two terms that are used as once, which they are "broadcast" and "ipod". There is an exception that music is also allowed in the podcast, but this sums up what a podcast actually is. She list the needs of a podcast, which are a microphone, computer, certain software. The good thing about each source is that they can all be downloaded for free. For her tips to succeed, it explains to each student how they can expand their project ideas to anything the student wants, as long as it is appropriate! She uses seven different topics of what any podcast can be based off of. These words are- people, company, animals, sports, places, things, and events.
I like how Judy defines what a podcast is. This helps people, including me, actually know simply what it is a combination of. I love the idea that music is allowed in a podcast. This can motivate a lot of people with the idea of music, including me. I like how Judy explains each thing needed for a podcast. The fact that each thing  can be found for free over the internet, makes it friendly to use for anyone. I mean, no one can beat the word free. Her main tip for succeeding makes each student realize that they should think a lot about what podcast they are doing, because they have that chance for it to be about anything they want it to be about. The seven topics she tells everyone to use, is something I will use whenever we do our podcast. Those seven topics mentioned in the paragraph before help me again realize that the specific topic can be narrowed down to a specific topic. This can really help with the U.S. if the majority of the students apply themselves to a certain level, which I hope most of them do. I feel like a ton more jobs could open up for years coming up, and it could relate to podcast done by six and seven year olds.

Blog Post 3

For the first part of this post, about the peer writing, I left my specific critique on Shaun Coleman's Blog post #2. He did a good job, because after reading his responses to the peer videos, I can tell that he actually watched the videos unlike a lot of people. The simple reason it is clear to see that he watched them is because for each paragraph, or topic, he pointed out useful information from each video. For more specific critique, again go to Shaun Coleman's Blog Post 2 and you should see a comment left by me.
For the second part of Blog Post #3, there are lots of parts, so I will just put them in numerous paragraphs/sections.
For the video "Technology in Education", it amazes me about the different ways there are for the special education to set up their system now compared to 10 years ago. Apple has many designs, but one specific Ipod that they have designed is like a book, except it does not have pages. Apple has turned around many people's lives with this, because for some it gives them hope. To add to the ipod book type device, they make some where the ipod actually reads it for you. This makes those people want to listen and it is exciting to them, compared to trying to understand one teacher speaking 5 days a week.
They have numerous touch screen devices, and one they have it set up to where there are bigger than usual letters used for spelling and writing purposes. It brings the more exciting effect into play rather than the old boring way, which is trying to learn to spell/write, with a piece of paper and pencil. For the teacher purposes as far as technology can help goes, teachers can simply post assignments on a link for the students to get to. This can be class work, hone work, learning gamed, etc. This certain newer style of teaching could go very far. I mean think, ten years ago none of this was around. What does this mean for 10 years down the road?
For the next part of Blog 3, about Gary's Social Media Count, there is a basic fact I see. With everything, it seems like these tremendous numbers are thrown at me, and I think at first thought it is supposed to scare me or another word could be intimidate. Those huge numbers really do not scare me, because with all of these people joining networks gives everyone that much more of an opportunity for something to happen that maybe has not happened yet. See, if thousands of people are joining facebook by the minute, more chances open because if you look at that as a business outlook, you should do nothing but smile. The bigger selection of people, you can still narrow down the best of the best, in anything.
There is a dark side to the fact that tons of people are currently joining all of these different types of online devices. That is the fact that it is like a competition already trying to make it in the world. These multiple internet related devices could eventually turn into a disaster with maybe too many people with opportunities. But then again, there could be towns built in places where there is nothing but trees. When I go up to mid Alabama where some of my family is from, I see nothing but trees and land for around 45 minutes! That tells me that the U.S. is not overpopulated. For me, facebook can be my internet source that could maybe help me in my career. That is because maybe once I start my career and want the same job in a different area, one way to contact the area where I would want to move to could be facebook.
For the video on A Vision on Students Today, there are so many ways to look at and talk about it. For the girl who raised the paper "18% of my Professors know my name", I feel the same way about South. You know that means around 1 out of her 5 teachers know her name, but really less because 1 out of 5 is 20%, not 18%. I have been in the situation of the guy who raised the paper that said "I buy hundred dollar textbooks that I never open". That should be good enough for a law to be passed to where the teacher has to tell every student if the book is necessary or not. Now some may say to that, "Well then the professors will not get any money". I would say directly back to those people, "Yes they got our money, because by the first day of class every student has payed their tuition which is over 200 dollars for each hour". That also lets me know that professors should not have any problems with money, unless they shop every weekend for wants instead of needs.
After seeing this video, i get the vibe from Mr. Strange for us students to think like a professor would, not a student. If I had a chance, right now, to teach a class at South, I would teach things strictly by the book, but in an actual cool interesting fun way. Not going to lie, I had a Psychology teacher at Faulkner State Community College this time of the year a year ago, and he did just that. Except the cool thing was that he never did pick up a book. He uses real life experiences and makes definitions out of that. His name is Mr. Ferrel, and if anybody who reads this has to ever drop out at South but still wants to attend a close college, go to Faulkner and request this guy as a teacher. I do not know why he is not at South, because I took a sociology class here at South, and it was nothing like Mr. Ferrel. His way of teaching helped me realize that I could be a teacher.
For the one billion people that do not make over a dollar a day, they are either kids or from other countries mostly. There really is a variety of reasons some do not bring home money. It is hard to say, but the majority of those people jobless with no money put themselves in tht position probably for not being responsible. See, if I get a teaching job some day (no matter what grade), I will try to push the students to try to accomplish something each day. It does not matter what it is as long as it is productive. By the end of the school year, hopefully my students would already have a more positive out look and better grades. Hey, that would not hurt me at all, if you know what I mean.

C4T Summary #1

For Mr Bryne's discussion, I realized that his main topic was on tsunamis. I realized around a half a year ago that tsunami's are the one thing that I never want to go through in life. Main points that happen in a tsunami where humans would be is at the beach. Now I know there are surfers and additional things that people do at the beach, but a wave that is 25 to 30 feet high will not make any one smile. Well, unless the person is behind a tv set and not really at the beach.
Tsunami's come from volcanic activity which is a different type of specific scary subject that I would also never want to go through. I am 21 and luckily have never thought of having to worry about a tsunami. That is just another one of those things that is great about living in the south. Gas prices are already insane, so we do not need another thing to add to the list of hurting us money wise. I would rather go through a category 4 hurricane that is survivable rather than a tsunami, and that should explain something!

For the second week, it was almost like he let me know that he is a well rounded thinker. The reason I it is fair for me to say this is because this time his topic was about a new computer series called thinkB4U which is operated by google makers. Comparing himself to his discussion about tsunamis just last week is why I say he changes topic, or is well rounded.

The new google device he mentions has instructional videos that can help protect anyone's computer for safety reasons. It is also set up for three sections- students, parents, and educators. When I read that, it made me realize that today is the first time I saw that google is 'in' on helping with the online school support throughout schools. If google does decide to really help like Mr. Bryne mentioned in his latest post, I do not know what thing in the world could stop google from letting this happen. The reason I say that with confidence is because if there is any site an average Joe would know about, the name 'google' would more than likely come out of the mouth at some time.

Blog Post # 2 Writing a Quality Blog Post

Did you know?

I did learn new things from watching the video which changed my mind set in a matter of minutes. First, the main thing is that I did not know that India's country is smarter than the United States. Also talking about this, I did not know that India had more k-12 students than the United States. That should tell all of our people, especially all education majors in school not done, that everyone should work harder at whatever they do so we will not be so far behind India in the brain!
As far as the job topic goes, I did not know that the top 10 jobs in the United States were not even around in 2004. The good thing about this act is that new job opportunities opened up and should keep doing so. The reason that I think more jobs will come about is because the technology will only get better in time. It is a prediction that by year 2013, a supercomputer will be built which will exceed computational capabilities of the human brain. The thing that is a ironic is that 2013 is the year after the world goes through its unpredictable stage.

Mr. Winkle Wates

This was a short story(that was neat). about an older man who wakes up from a 100 year nap. He is very confused with what is around him. He walks into a business building and notices that the business workers are doing their work online through the internet, talking to the other person basically across the world. Mr. Winkle got a sick feeling and his gut because he is not used to seeing this, so he left. Mr. Winkle then leaves the business area and goes into a hospital he sees not to far from the business area. Once he walks in to seek help, he realizes that new looking material he has never seen before is in it being used on everyone it seems. The thing about the hospital that upsets Mr. Winkle is when he sees the machines hooked up to peoples bodies helping them survive.
Once he walks out of the hospital from that same sick feeling from the business area, he leaves the area and finds a school after a lot of walking. In the school, he sees a class of students and a teacher lecturing for hours to the students, as they take notes. Mr. Winkle finds himself in a sense that he is used to here, and admits that he likes school. Now, the students in the class did not look to thrilled about being in school, yet Mr. Winkle stayed in that class the rest of the time. Mr. Winkle's main point out of this video was that even though technology has changed so much in the past century, there are some places throughout the world who have not changed one bit, like certain schools.

The importance of Creativity

Towards the beginning of the video, he points out a thing that I have never thought of. Children just starting school this year will be retiring at the year 2065. I agree with his point on how the future in the world is unpredictable completely. He makes an arguable case about how creative thinking should be just as important as literature. Hey, I am not complaining with this guy because I am not the best with Literature! His statement "You need to be prepared to be considered wrong" is a very useful tool in anything, because with whatever it is you are dealing with, if you perfect it, there is not a chance of you being wrong. The only thing to remember that is logic to his statement is- no body is perfect. The catch about the world is in the education system, at some level, you can say that is even because across the world every same subject is taught! I did not know this information at all.
To get to know specifics about anyone's strengths/talents, I think it is a very thoughtful idea of how Mr. Ken Robinson explains the three things to intelligence. The three "d's" are diversity, dynamic, and distinct. With a diversity topic on anybody, it would be a good idea to talk to your parents with a doctor about all of the subjects you like, which will show your interests in everything, especially with the help of a professional. The next d is dynamic. This will help with how much you should do the things you like to do in a specific amount of time each day, or time you do it. The third d is distinct. To be very distinct in a certain area of music or art, would mean that if you show people your talent in that, you can get recognized. He also mentions how a degree in "his time" meant you would get a job, and how in today's world if you have a college degree, that doesn't mean you automatically have a job. There are a lot of good things about women compared to men, I will admit, and Mr. Robinson mentions how women are a lot better at multitasking than men are. That comes to a point with me, why in the world do we have men as president?

A vision for the 21st century

For this video on the next step in the way of learning, I do not like how no names are mentioned. The reason is because it is about making a 3D game that any student could access on the internet. The word game is italicized for a really good reason. For any aged human being that has any type of fun in their life, between the two words work and fun, I would argue that most of them would choose the word fun. This word can apply to the new way of education that is not yet created but seems like it is in the working.
It seems to me that if this invention comes out, does that mean all students have to attend class? I mean, if you have a game that is based on learning education and you can go around the world on it to any place for learning purposes, I don't think school would be a requirement. As long as you have a reliable computer that works, then you could do all of the school work at your house! The opposing side to this is every current/future teacher would be completely jobless, which would only up the percentage of the jobless everywhere. So, the second type of way they can only do this is if every student has a computer in the classroom. Well, where are they going to get all of that money? Maybe it's the $3.45 cents for 87 type gas. Or maybe it is something to do with tax money. Those two things, or it will have to be in the future as well, which would simply be raising the costs for every student to go to school. The eye catcher of this video is th last statement, "We are going to make it happen". This, again, tells me that the system is already been working on or, is thought about getting worked on.

Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

http://www.jmorganmarketing.com/implementing-enterprise-2-0-at-penn-state-university-part-three-technology-adoption/
This women on this video says, "only some students can succeed with just a pencil and a piece of paper". I do agree with that, only because some students lose their attention at a immature age, which I agree is a valid argument. This teacher teaches her students how to use certain types of technology in very different ways. For  finding definitions, she tells her students to look up whatever word on Google chrome which gives all of the definitions.
She created a site for her students where they can do projects together as a complete group, instead of being scared to do projects alone. As long as the teacher is aware that each student attends class and is working on what they should be working on, sure, I will agree that her way could be a better way of learning. The catch to her situation would be that she has to be on an a game task for explaining how to do something specific for class work. Because what happens if a student really is sick and does not attend school? I feel like that person would have a difficult catching up, no matter what the teacher has to say to that.
