For the Langwitches ideas, I see that the teacher for this site has specifics about how she does things. She has an idea of bringing in three students at a time to see how each do their work. She has an audio system that she sets up in her entire class which reads the material instead of herself doing it. Each student is supposed to read along in their books, using their fingers to follow along while listening to the audio system. A small change that is really effective in this is that for each chapter, the tone of the audio voice changes. This, of course, helps those young students to keep up at the beginning of each chapter. This teacher does plan to give her students a level which can be considered "play time", once they have reached a level of success with their assignments.
Being that the teacher does set up the time to be able to listen to three students at a time helps the students realize that they are more important to themselves. For each student, it will make them more aware since they know the teacher has time to see and understand their individual problems. When this teacher gets the class in entirely, she can let the students follow along and she can notice which students are and are not keeping up. This can allow her to remember the students who have more trouble reading, so this way she can write down and remember each student who falls under the more trouble with reading category. If she uses this way weekly, she can be very productive if she does this at least once a week in the school year. For any first grader, the words play time can inspire them to go to school. This teacher mentions how the students will receive play time once they progress to a certain level of improvement.
For the facts on "The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom", this is another source that gives points that explains legit reasons podcasting can help with, unlike older ways of learning. The first thing mentioned in this source is how each student has a better advantage with interacting with other students outside of the classroom. The reason that this is able to be the case is because with podcasting in a classroom, each student has to apply themselves, which means that they would have to meet other students and work with each other as a group a lot more. Another point this source provides is how their can be bigger differences than usual with projects, since each student would have off time to see other students ideas on their projects. Once each student realizes each standard way of moving around for podcasting, more creativity and innovation is expected to happen more and more. At a certain level in the school year, the students could make characters and scenes out of podcasting, which can make memories and more fun out of the school work. The last point that was mentioned in this source was about how each students parents can see what and when their child's work was done, and how they are doing in the class.
I agree with how podcasting in a classroom can be looked at as a way of helping idividual's interact with others outside of school. I honestly wish they would have put podcasting in schools twenty years ago. If I would have had this source at young age, I will argue that I would not have had to attend any type of college because I would have made a lot of money by the time my senior year of high school was over. I also bet there would have been a bigger chance of getting a job that pays enough money to live off of, as a dependent person. I agree with the fact that more project possibilities are available with the use of podcasting, which is because, again, being able to see and talk to other students about their ideas. I like the idea of how students should record their own scenes. This could help make more friends for each student and become a better rounded person to their age group. The last point is very effective, which lets every parent have the chance to see everything their child has done for the class.
The last source I used is called "Judy Scharf Podcast Collection". The first thing she does and defines the word Broadcast. She says that it is two terms that are used as once, which they are "broadcast" and "ipod". There is an exception that music is also allowed in the podcast, but this sums up what a podcast actually is. She list the needs of a podcast, which are a microphone, computer, certain software. The good thing about each source is that they can all be downloaded for free. For her tips to succeed, it explains to each student how they can expand their project ideas to anything the student wants, as long as it is appropriate! She uses seven different topics of what any podcast can be based off of. These words are- people, company, animals, sports, places, things, and events.
I like how Judy defines what a podcast is. This helps people, including me, actually know simply what it is a combination of. I love the idea that music is allowed in a podcast. This can motivate a lot of people with the idea of music, including me. I like how Judy explains each thing needed for a podcast. The fact that each thing can be found for free over the internet, makes it friendly to use for anyone. I mean, no one can beat the word free. Her main tip for succeeding makes each student realize that they should think a lot about what podcast they are doing, because they have that chance for it to be about anything they want it to be about. The seven topics she tells everyone to use, is something I will use whenever we do our podcast. Those seven topics mentioned in the paragraph before help me again realize that the specific topic can be narrowed down to a specific topic. This can really help with the U.S. if the majority of the students apply themselves to a certain level, which I hope most of them do. I feel like a ton more jobs could open up for years coming up, and it could relate to podcast done by six and seven year olds.
Zach,
ReplyDeleteThis is a very detailed post. Good job! However, be sure to add alt and title modifiers to all of the pictures you use in blog posts and you also need clickable links. If you have any trouble doing this, come by the lab and one of the lab assistants can help you out.
